When America legalized the sin of abortion, much of the sordid fallout is only now becoming visible. The website, www.numberofabortions.com, lists the number of children murdered since the U.S. Supreme Court found room in the constitution for this holocaust.
The trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell in Pennsylvania exposed the sordid details of this bloody business. After years of complaints to state authorities who did nothing, federal officials finally raided Gosnell`s abortion mill and found a "house of horrors!" Shelves of jars contained baby parts and whole fetuses. Some showed signs of having their spinal cords snipped at the neck, indicating that they were born alive and had to be killed. Operating tables and patient charts contained dried blood.
But the testimony of Gosnell`s employees exposed the gruesome details of the day-to-day operation. Patients were sometimes overmedicated by unqualified staff. Workers were directed to insert scissors into the neck and snip the spinal cords if the baby showed signs of life. Sometimes the procedures caused a miscarriage into the toilet and one worker described seeing a baby trying to swim before it was held under the water to drown.
At first, the trial was largely ignored by the liberal media, but as the horror continued to unfold, pro-life voices began to demand exposure. At one point someone counted the Gosnell articles at less than 500 and the coverage of a famous sports figure, who "came out" as a homosexual at the same time frame at over 2,000.
One of the most disturbing revelations was the failure to report child rape. A teenager would be brought in by an adult who got her pregnant and no report would be made to the police. These statutory rapes were routinely covered up.
"The Gosnell case is a watershed moment for the issue of abortion," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. "The discovery of his horrific practices helped shed light on an abortion industry that has run amok without oversight or accountability for decades."
As a result of this case, many of the abortion mills across the country are getting a closer scrutiny. Operators of a similar one in Texas are heading for trial and several have been closed down by state authorities.
In 2000, the Lord put it into Jack Chick`s heart to speak to this horror. The result was a tract that carries some of Jesus` anger at this shedding of innocent blood. It shows how our modern abortion fits into Satan`s strategy of killing babies throughout history. The demons behind pagan idols demanded child sacrifices. Is there any difference when we kill babies that threaten to interrupt our worship of the idols of convenience and pleasure?
The tract, Who Murdered Clarice?, shows that a whole crowd of people are guilty in this sinful business: "...parents, relatives, doctors, nurses, senators, congressmen, lobbyists, supreme court justices and finally the presidents..." stand guilty before Jesus in judgment.
As usual, Who Murdered Clarice?, ends in a message of forgiveness to anyone who is willing to repent of having been involved in an abortion or in the abortion business.
With the increased awareness of the consequences of promoting this sin, it is time for soul winners to pass along this message of hope of forgiveness through repentance and seeking His mercy.
