Chick tracts are used by thousands around the world to share the gospel each day. Many of you get very creative! We love hearing stories about how you get the gospel into peoples’ hands.
Brian, a long-time Chick customer, recently wrote how he has been getting creative with tracts for decades:
“Back in my college days, I was a varsity cheerleader at Hardin-Simmons University, and we went to SMU for our cheer camp my junior year. There were lots of other colleges there and a lot of high school cheer teams. In exchange for having all my fees waived I volunteered to serve as the “Dorm Dad” for all the high school boys at the camp.
I took a stack of Chick tracts with me, and I slipped one under each of the dorm doors. I also left them lying around in the common areas and even put a few in the restroom on top of the paper towel dispensers. When I went to lunch the next day, all the guys were reading the tracts and trading them back and forth, and the girls kept asking where they got them and could they have some.
Later, when I became an insurance agent, I always kept a variety of Chick tracts displayed in my lobby and lots of folks, especially children, took them home. Each year I sent out a Christmas mailing that included a newsletter about recent insurance changes, and tips on mitigating losses and keeping the family safe. I always shared a little about how God had blessed our family that year, and I always included the presentation of the Gospel. By far, that gospel presentation was by way of a Chick tract.
As my business grew the number of mailings and tracts grew from the hundreds to the thousands. One day early in January I got a call from a lady I had insured, and right away she asked me, "That little comic book you sent in your Christmas mailing, is that from a cult?"
"No ma'am, that comes from the Bible," I said, "and it tells us why Jesus was born into the world at Bethlehem; why we really celebrate Christmas."
"Well, was everything in that little booklet true?"
"Only the Bible is perfectly true. But yes, ma'am, the little book is true. Why do you ask?"
“Because my brother and his wife came over to my house for Christmas dinner. And after dinner, while she and I were washing dishes, my brother found your newsletter with that comic book on my coffee table. And after he read it, he got down on his knees and prayed that prayer at the end of the book out loud. And ever since, he has been a totally different person. And he has bought a whole bunch of those little comics, and he is giving them to everybody, and I just don't want him to get caught up in a cult.”
I assured her that the reason he was so changed was not that he was brainwashed, but that his sins had been washed away, and God had filled his heart, and he just wants others to feel that same joy and know they are going to heaven when they die. I encouraged her to let her brother tell her what had happened to him, and I encouraged her to give her life to Christ as well.
I am sure there were many others I won't know about till I get to heaven who were saved as well. But I believe God had that sweet lady call so I would know He was blessing those mailings, and He was not allowing His word to return void.
When I turned 50, God called me to preach, which I have been doing now for 23 years. Each year at Christmas and on the 4th of July our church enters a float in the local parades and some of our members walk along handing out bags containing candy or Cracker Jacks and a Chick tract. At each parade we hand out 1,500-2,000 of those gospel presentations. And we always keep plenty of Chick tracts on display in a tract rack near the front entrance.”
Brian found opportunities to pass out Chick tracts in college, during his career as an insurance agent, and now as a pastor. He has shared the gospel with thousands by finding creative ways to get Chick tracts into their hands. Can you use any of these ideas to get the gospel to people in your community?
