Lately I have spoken to two different Christian authors. Each has told me a similar story. He wanted to reprint his book, but with a different Bible version. Here is basically how the conversation went.

"I would like to issue the next edition of my book using a different Bible version."

"That's fine. What did you have in mind?"

"Well, first I have a few questions. If I wanted to change the version to the NIV, would you print my book?"

"Of course."

"What if I wanted to use the NLT (New Living Translation). Would that be OK?"

"Why not?"

"Is the NKJV (New King James Version) alright with you?"

"We'd be happy to."

"How about the Message Bible?"

"No problem."

"Then I'd like to change it to the King James Bible."

"I'm sorry. You need to find another publisher."

What they found was this. It doesn't matter what Bible they want to use, as long as it isn't a King James Bible. They can pick a Bible that takes away words, even whole verses. They can pick a paraphrase that makes the Bible say all sorts of things it was never meant to say. They can pick a Bible that is soft on the sin of homosexuality, changes verses about the deity of Christ, hides the fact that God promises to preserve His words, and sneaks Roman Catholic doctrine in while no one is looking. They can even use multiple different versions that totally disagree with one another. But as soon as they want to use the King James Bible, the doors close in their faces.

You know, you can tell a lot more about a book by its enemies than by its cover.

I must tell you: both authors did find someone else to publish their books using the King James. God is always faithful.
