Mission Possible, one of the most effective and enduring prison ministries reports that its founder, Chaplain Allan Woody has passed away. His wife, Jo, is assembling a team to carry it on. Operated for over 40 years out of Inverness, Florida, thousands of prisoners have been reached with the gospel in dozens of prisons.
Jo writes in the ministry newsletter: "The work is going great. I`ve sent out literally thousands of tracts, hundreds of books and Bibles —in fact, just today, I sent twelve big boxes to a new chaplain in Oklahoma. He works in the Assessment Center and gets to meet every man (a 1,500 facility) who is admitted there. He told me he also has twenty young men who are on fire for the Lord and need Chick tracts to pass out in their pods and on the yard."
Prisoners are often ripe for the gospel because they know they are sinners. When they hit bottom in a cell, they begin examining the fruits of their lives and realize something is missing. If a no-nonsense gospel tract is at hand, the Holy Spirit can use it to meet their new-felt need.
Mission Possible received a special letter from a prison, thanking her for tracts and Bibles. It contained a page of signatures from grateful prisoners.
If you would like to help supply tracts to prison ministries like Mission Possible, Chick Publications maintains a Prison Fund where Chick customers can help. Just mark your donation for the Chick Prison Fund and 100% of it will go to put tracts into the prisons. Unfortunately, we are not authorized to give tax deductable receipts, but some are able to donate through their church and receive tax credit.
A friend of mine who is in prison in Florida read the book One Thing You Can`t Do In Heaven by Mark Cahill. He was so excited. He told me that he gives a tract to one guy and tells him, "Hey, do me a favor, when you`re done, give the tract to another guy and tell that guy to come see me," and they do! They love those tracts.
If you could send me some of the magazines you have I would really appreciate it. A homie that I was locked up with had a few of them. I began reading them and could not put them down. I have read King of Kings, Scarface and The Broken Cross but would like to read all of them.
I love the cartoons. Could you please send me the Holy Joe tracts instead of the This Was Your Life tract when you send the catalog. I`m the only Christian on my block and the other inmates make fun of me and sometimes put me down for what I believe in (Jesus Christ as my Saviour). I remember the Holy Joe tract, where he went through the same thing I am going through, when he was in the Army. I could use me a lift-me-up by reading Holy Joe again.
