Actress Uma Thurman reacted against the law, recently passed, that significantly limits the availability of abortion in Texas. Because she had chosen abortion as the best option when she was in her late teens, she came out strongly against the Texas law.
However, in her article in the Washington Post, September 21st, 2021, she candidly describes the agony of her choice. She claims that her acting career started when she was 15 and, before long, she found herself in Europe “about to start a job.”
But: “In my late teens, I was accidentally impregnated by a much older man,” she claims.
Wanting to keep the baby, she called home. She said this was the first time that her family had a discussion with her about sex, and the discussion put a lid on her desire to mother the child. She was led to believe that her only option was an abortion.
“My heart was broken nonetheless,” she says.
The procedure was arranged through a mutual friend in Germany: “It hurt terribly, but I didn’t complain. I had internalized so much shame that I felt I deserved the pain.”
In the article, Uma, now 51, goes on to confess that it had been her darkest secret until now. She went on to raise three children in what appeared to be a very normal, successful life:
“The abortion I had as a teenager was the hardest decision of my life, one that caused me anguish then and that saddens me even now, but it was the path to the life full of joy and love that I have experienced,” Uma concludes. “Choosing not to keep that early pregnancy allowed me to grow up and become the mother I wanted and needed to be.”
There is so much wrong with this picture. Uma is playing right into the hands of Satan’s propaganda machine. The conclusion is that abortion is the only path to a life of joy and love, for someone caught with an “accidental” pregnancy.
And soul winners, we need to make sure as many people as possible understand that there is another path. By 15, or even 18, a child needs a clear picture of their Creator’s designated path to “joy and love” in marriage. Here Uma’s parents obviously let her down.
There is another thing that parents need to be aware of in this story: Besides Hollywood’s general focus on destroying all family values, Uma’s experience smacks of sex trafficking: underage girl, far from home “impregnated by a much older man.” And discarded when an “accident” happened.
Again, by 18, our children need a clear picture of the difference between wholesome entertainment and the cesspool that trapped Uma.
But Bible believers need to do a heads up. Other states besides Texas are endeavoring to alter their laws to eliminate the bloodbath of abortion. But when that happens, that will not eliminate unwanted children.
In fact, loving families will need to step up. It is one thing to rescue a baby from death in the womb, but once saved, many mothers will need other alternatives. Many children will face another uncertain future called the foster care system. In many cases their only rescue is a loving Christian home.
We need to shout far and wide God’s ultimate solution. Choosing sex only for pleasure leads to heartbreak, and sometimes violent death. But even beyond death, is the specter of facing Jesus, our Creator, sitting on His throne of judgment.
Two Chick tracts, WHO MURDERED CLARICE? and BABY TALK, are designed to educate on the horrors of abortion and portray the Biblical alternative.
