Dear ones in Christ,

The stage is being set. Ecumenical leaders have called for a "universal council" beginning in the year 2000 that is supposed to resolve issues that are "dividing the church." Their goal would be to come up with a "common confession of faith." This is a giant step towards a one world-church, with the pope as its head.

Beloved, the enemy is turning up the heat. He is stepping up his efforts to block the gospel. He is using the ecumenical movement to stop Protestants from witnessing to Catholics. Many influential Christian leaders have already bowed to the pope's pressure and have agreed to stop sharing the gospel with Catholics. Political pressures are also building to stop Christians from witnessing to anyone, no matter what their religion.

As the enemy steps up his efforts, we must step up ours as well. We must do everything we can to get the gospel out to precious lost souls. Nearly a billion Catholics around the world are trusting in a religion to get them to heaven. They need to hear that salvation is not through a church, but through Christ alone. Millions more think that their religion or their good works will get them in. Others are in despair and think there is no hope at all.

As we enter the new millennium, let's step up our efforts to reach these people with the gospel. Thank God we have the one and only answer. Let's do everything we can to get it to them. Nothing is more important or rewarding than this great work.
