Satan's attack on Bible believers is relentless. Above all, he wants to limit or eliminate our freedom to share the gospel. Following his success in getting the Bible out of the schools, he is using America's legalization of sin as a prybar to remove additional freedom.
One arena is the Christian Colleges who dare to stand on the Bible against the same-sex agenda. The political concept of separation of church and state was the wedge that drove the Bible from the schools. Now the anti-discrimination laws have been hijacked to force acceptance of gender confusion.
The previous Washington administration had stipulated that any private college that received funding from the government was forbidden to "discriminate" on the basis of religion, race, color, sex, or national origin. And sex was broadly interpreted to include same-sex attraction and chosen gender identity.
This applied to hiring as well as standards of admissions for the students. Even if the college did not receive direct grants from the government, money such as Pell Grants to the students for tuition brought it under the anti-discrimination regulations.
So, standing on biblical principles in hiring and admissions meant a fatal cutoff of funding for the institution.
Fortunately, some of the severity of this penalty has been reduced under the new administration. However, this is only one of the fronts in Satan's war on our freedoms. Another arena is the assault on our children. As usual, California is the leader. A bill being considered in Sacramento forbids anyone with unwanted same-sex attractions from seeking paid counseling.
Tagged AB 2943, it would amend the state's consumer protection law to make it illegal for any organization or person to offer "any practices that seek to … change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce the sexual romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex."
Youth or adults struggling with their gender identity would not be allowed to seek paid counseling for their concern. Any conference requiring an admission fee would be forbidden to encourage attendees to avoid homosexual behavior. The bill is so broad that a liberal judge could conceivably fine a bookstore for selling Bibles or tracts that call homosexuals to repentance.
Fortunately, Christian and conservative legal organizations are working hard to defeat the bill. Yet it illustrates the audacity of the activists driving to eliminate all opposition to same-sex behavior.
The attack on the younger children comes in the government schools. Again, California is the leader. A story from Orange County illustrates the point. When parents objected to indoctrination of their children with pro-same-sex activity, they were given a memorandum by the attorney for the Orange County Board of Education: "Parents who disagree with the instructional materials related to gender, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation may not excuse their children from this instruction."
The memorandum also said: "However, parents are free to advise their children that they disagree with some or all of the information presented in the instructional program and express their views on these subjects to their children." This, of course, is too late. The innocence of the child is already destroyed simply by introducing the ideas of sexual perversion.
Parents are increasingly limited in their options. For those who can afford to home school, the very young can be protected for a while. But biblical truth has to be taught and demonstrated very intentionally. Casual Christianity will almost guarantee that the child will eventually capitulate to the pagan culture. Chick tracts, comics and books can be valuable tools. Real-life stories laced heavily with scripture can help give the young person a biblical anchor growing up.
