Tennessee Wants to Control Your Kids Public outrage has succeeded in stopping the Tennessee Department of Education from a plan to take control of the “wellbeing” of the state’s children, birth to 18. In what Fox News dubbed an “exercise in audacity,” a newly formed Task Force of the Department of Education was to be visiting every child in the state to check on their “wellbeing.” Data was to be collected on the family situation with a mandate to report unsafe or unhealthy practices. The plan was to email a survey link to every household with children, even babies. If the survey was ignored, then a phone call would be made. If the phone call failed, a personal visit would be made to the child at home or in school. The Legislator's Email "Blew Up" The legislature immediately received a deluge of complaints from concerned constituents. State legislator Bruce Griffey said his email was blowing up and he was scrambling to get more details from the Department of Education. Griffey complained that the plan was announced just a couple of days before the end of the legislative session, not giving time to investigate. The concept of the state assigning someone besides the parents to look out for the welfare of the children is not new. Scotland tried this several years ago with a plan to designate a “named person” as a government agent to look out for the welfare of each child in the country. After a couple of years of washback, including lawsuits, the plan was dropped. Parental advocacy organizations, such as the Activist Mommy group, raised the alert against Tennessee’s grab for control of our children. Education Or Propaganda? The recent shift from education to propaganda in the public schools has concerned many parents. The home lockdown has initiated parents into the realm of homeschooling. A recent survey indicated that up to 1/3 of families were seriously considering removing the children from government schools and switching to home schooling or neighborhood tutor pods. No doubt this trend has statist officials concerned. Perhaps this grab for parental authority is a calculated response to losing the present control they have through the schools. In any event, parents need to wake up and realize how relentlessly government schools are building their children's worldview. God is simply gone from that world and in many cases openly ridiculed. False science of evolution has substituted for the Creator. Gender bending is encouraged and supported. How To Protect The Kids? It is no longer possible to protect the innocence of our children until they are old enough to handle the hard stuff in life. We must feed them God’s Word so that they can discern the lies from the truth. Many parents have told how Chick tracts have grounded their children in the Word and promoted a desire for God.
