Meet Fred Carter When customers began to request that Chick tracts be redrawn for a black audience, Jack Chick tapped Fred Carter. Originally from Danville, Illinois, Fred Carter was saved at 18. Coming from an artistic family, he has been drawing all his life. When a teacher saw The American Academy of Arts in Chicago was running an art contest, he persuaded Fred to submit his work. He did, and won 2nd place and a scholarship, too! After a profitable year at the Academy, he had to leave school to earn a living. Fred is the artist behind all of Chick's full-color comics, and also most of the paintings used in the film, The Light of the World. When Jack Chick brought Fred Carter onto Chick Publications’ staff, they began a partnership which was to last nearly 45 years. After Jack passed away in 2016, Fred worked with Jack’s other long-time friend, David Daniels to continue the tradition of no-compromise Chick gospel tracts that get read until Fred went to be with the Lord in 2022. The black tract series, with Fred’s art, has already sold over 7 million copies to soul-winners worldwide. For years, Fred and his wife, Lee, also pastored a local church here in Southern California. • • • • • Below are a few of the titles that Fred has redrawn specifically to make them more effective for reaching black readers: Did you receive our last email newsletter?
