Simeon and Jesus in the Temple.

Did Jesus Need to Be Purified?

A pastor recently conducted a baby dedication during Sunday morning service. As so many pastors do, he read Luke 2:22. We’ve all heard the verse. It goes like this:

“And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him (Jesus) to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;”

But this morning, there was something that didn’t sound quite right.

“And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him (Jesus) to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;”

Wait a minute... “their” purification? That’s plural! Who is the other person being purified?

It’s easy to understand about Mary. After the birth of a male child, the mother has a seven-day purification period according to Leviticus 12. Then, she is allowed to come to the temple, where she will want to present her child to the Lord.

But do you believe Jesus needed to be purified?

If so, then the scripture is a lie that says Jesus “knew no sin” (2 Cor. 5:21). Then He could not have been born the Sinless One, the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world. In fact, He could not then be God in the flesh, but just another sinful man child.

This slight change in the text chips away at the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. You will find this change in many modern Bibles.

How did it happen?

It happened because scholars in 1881 changed the Bible. Their English Revised Version of the Bible was not based solely on the many manuscripts that were used to translate the King James. They also chose to allow their translation to be influenced by a different set of Greek manuscripts, based on a few fake documents.

This erosion of the deity of Christ that we see in Luke 2:22 is a result of this new Westcott and Hort Greek, that trusted other manuscripts like Codex Sinaiticus and used them to “correct” the text that has been handed down through the centuries. And it’s not the same.

Look for yourself in the image below. You don’t have to be a Greek scholar to see that the words are different. And different words create different meanings (and different doctrines).

Luke 2:22 Greek Example

The Sinaiticus came from the collation of manuscripts from heretical churches in Alexandria, Egypt, where many did not believe Jesus was really God. So, they changed the text to match their beliefs!

And if they were willing to change the verse shown above, then what else did they change?

For more examples of what has been changed in modern Bibles, see Look What’s Missing by David W. Daniels. He compares 257 verses and shows how they were changed from the clear reading of the King James. Daniels gives examples from 41 modern Bibles and compares them with the KJV.

In his books, Is The “World’s Oldest Bible” A Fake? and Who Faked the “World’s Oldest Bible”? author David W. Daniels shows the simple reasons we know that the Sinaiticus is not the ancient fourth-century text we are told, but rather a nineteenth-century fake.

Don’t accept a Bible that is based on a fake!

For years, publishers have been removing words, and even whole verses, from modern Bibles. What's missing from your Bible? Take a look!

Here is proof that the Sinaiticus, a supposedly ancient Bible text on which modern Bibles are based, is actually a 19th-century fake.
