When I was a kid I was into monster movies. We watched Godzilla, King Kong, and all sorts of Japanese-produced shows, such as “Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster.” Godzilla with his radioactive breath stopped a monster made from smog and pollutants! “Give a hoot, don’t pollute!” we sang during Saturday morning cartoons.
We watched the National Geographic nature specials about DDT, animal plagues, hunger and famine. I even made a picture of a dinosaur picking up litter and won a drawing contest at my church! We were all about saving the earth from a global catastrophe. It showed we cared.
And now, in 2024, have things changed? Not one bit. In the last few years, we’ve been treated to a global pandemic, followed by deaths way above normal, nations on the brink of, or already into full-on war. Some say nuclear war could be just around the corner.
Sound familiar? Back in 1971 Jack Chick wrote a tract called Escape!. Then 20 years later it was updated to The Great Escape! with newer information. Now it’s 33 years after that, and we are happy to present a newly updated The Great Escape! Why? Because God placed Jack’s finger on the pulse of humanity, and He gave him stories that stood the test of time.
A few of the details have changed, but the essential truths remain the same: The only escape is the Blessed Hope, promised by the Lord Jesus to all who trust in His shed blood to pay for their sins.
This tract will resonate with people today, updated with statistics from the World Health Organization, the World Food Programme, the Population Connection, Global Citizen, Natural Resources Defense Council, and others.
It reads like today’s newspaper, because it is like today’s newspaper, with one difference: it presents the gospel of Jesus Christ as the one way out, offering the hope of eternal life with a loving heavenly Father. I hope you enjoy passing these out!
